She is currently a postdoc at the Interface Science Department of Fritz Haber Institute Max Plank Berlin Germany. Her research focuses on thin film industrial thermal catalysts by employing thermal evaporation, XPS, STM, and other characterization techniques for industrial thermal catalyst applications.

Afshan completed her Ph.D. at EMSS (Energy Materials & Surface Sciences) lab, Okinawa Institute of Sciences & Technology (OIST) on 30th May 2021, Okinawa Japan, and her research was focused on the formation of hybrid halide perovskites materials and surface sciences leading to solar cells and photovoltaic devices which were characterized by STM (scanning tunneling microscopy), STS (scanning tunneling spectroscopy), UPS (Ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy), XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy), IPES (Inverse Photoemission spectroscopy].

Moreover, she received a Master of Science degree in Electronics (with a Gold medal) from the University of Peshawar, Peshawar, Pakistan, in 2008, and publish the “Analog Electronics Solution Manual’’ for Master students during her studies at the University of Peshawar. In 2009, she was nominated for Presidential Award from the University of Peshawar. Later, she served for three years (2009-2011) as an Electronics Scientific officer at the Electronics Faculty in GIKI (Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences & Technology), Swabi, Pakistan.

She obtained a Master of Science degree in Microfluidics and Nanoengineering from Waseda University of Tokyo, Japan, under the MEXT G30 Scholarship (Japan Government Scholarship) from Sep 2011- Sep 2013. After her degree, she served as a Development Engineer in the Physics department at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Pakistan. Furthermore, she achieved the gold medal in her Diploma of Associate Engineering in Electronics in 2002 and a Civil award from the Government of Pakistan for the best performance in electronics on an industrial level (March 23rd, 2004), and attained “Best Electronics Circuit Designer” award twice in electronics at the provincial level (2001, 2002).
